My Francis Francis! X1 espresso machine has recently started tripping
the GFCI outlets in my kitchen. Has anyone else had this problem?
Any techs out there that know if there might be a common solution like
replacing the heating element?

Regards,
Derek

Unplugged and with an ohmeter, check for any resistance between the
either of the heater element lugs to the body of the machine.

if there is anything other than infinite or in the millions of ohms
this may be it.

also water leaks can cause this.

Really alan?

since my experience is far more broad than yours, I can say that
SUPERS ie Gaggia Saeco etc. or HX machines after being shipped and
water remains will trip GFI if there is an internal WATER leak. O
rings, hose, etc. and NOT due to boiler or heater.

that's the problem with B.S. advice:

The poor, unwary poster may spend good $$$ for parts that DO NOT FIX
the problem. but then, it is not YOUR money, is it alan??

I used to use a Francis Francis. On two separate occasions I had the same
problem as you describe. Both were caused by an internal leak. The first
occasion was several months after purchase, and the second was several more
months after the repair by an independent repair shop in Seattle.

Good Luck!

Right! The problem was solved both times, although only for a few months
duration, by a gasket replacement. Unfortunately it's been over 4 years so
I don't recall what gasket.

I made about 10 - 15 brews per week, so the machine saw a fair amount of
use.
