I was here in the old days but very rarely now. There is just no
reason to.

I'm wearing my old alt.coffee t-shirt that I bought a decade or more
ago. It brings a tear to my eye.

It's so hard to read this newsgroup anymore because the spam to content
ratio is so out of balance. How do you people hide the spam?

The (n)ext key; I read this newsgroup on my BBS, and there's not a clear way
of determining what's SPAM. I might try limiting the number of groups
crossposted to that I'll allow, see if that cuts down the SPAM.

Gnus allows me to score articles based on various header-based criteria
such as Organization, From, Subject, and most beautifully, Xref.
Everything past a certain threshold gets chucked in the bin
automatically. I'm not sure how well-equipped other readers are on that
matter, but I would expect Thunderbird to be capable of basic filtering
as well (it works for mail). I don't see any spam on here whatsoever,
with very few rules in place.

I am looking for a new newsagent but I'm not sure it's worth learning
Emacs in it's entirety just for a good news agent.

I currently use claws-mail and it's news capabilities really is a turd.
It can't even hide messages because the mail doesn't exist in a local
spool but NNTP is treated much like IMAP.

I'm wondering if there is a mail client where something like
spamassisin or rspamd can be used to do spam/ham scoring such as your
described. Perhaps it's worth running my own INN server?

Pam is a graphical newsreader with a Scorefile to help you filter spam out.

If you're willing to build from source, you can build Pam with GTK2 only. It
builds using GTK2 out of the box.

oh wow, I didn't know that was still an option. Thanks. My distro only
packages the gtk3 built version.
