Cleaning a Capresso Infinity Grinder

Somewhere along the line, I heard that a good way to really clean the
burrs was to put some raw rice through the grinder. Something about
the rice cleaning off the coffee residue. Has anyone ever tried this?
I can do a pretty good job cleaning out with a brush and paper towels,
but there is still some residue and I'm wondering if that may
eventually affect the coffee flavor. The top burr comes out but the
bottom is attached.

Your suggestions and experience would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

It works, but is not ideal, as it is usually harder then beans and
some people have said it leaves a residue. Theres a product out now
designed for it, that seems to work very well. (albeit somewhat
expensive) 35.00 for 480grams(about 12-15 uses)

I got some and use it every month or so in addition to light weekly
cleaning with compressed air. And they seem to do a good job.

After cleaning it with the brush, I run some brown rice through it and then
dust everything off with the brush again.

I don't know how great this works compared to other things for cleaning, but
the next morning I have some great cream of rice hot cereal for breakfast.
I'm going to try some whole wheat and barley next time I get over to Whole
Foods. The Infinity grinds it to just the right consistency for hot cereal.

I've used various things to clean my espresso grinders, including
minute rice and Grindz. In the case of the Infinity, though, it's so
easy to take the burrs out that I've never used anything except a
couple of brushes. I suppose a vacuum might make it a little less
messy. What you're trying to do with the rice, etc., is get the burrs
clean without having to disassemble the grinder. With the Infinity, I
wouldn't bother; you'll get it cleaner with less mess by just taking it
apart. The little remaining residue has never seemed to affect the
taste, and I'm pretty anal about these things.

Best,
David
