Does anyone know much about Mexican coffee? I find myself wondering
about a green coffee I had picked up in Nogales in 1995. This was
before I knew how to home roast, it was the first time I had seen green
coffee for sale and got it as I was curious. I kept it in the freezer
for a few years until I learned that one could homeroast with an air
popper.
Anyway, this coffee produced a good espresso, huge amounts of crema
and a kind of grainy taste. It was in a clear bag with a small
triangular logo. I did not manage to save the bag so I have no idea
what kind of coffee it was.
Anyone have any idea?

I've enjoyed several Mexican coffees over the years.

Some nice mild ones come from Oaxaca. They make a good blending base with
Harrar or Mocha and an Indonesian.

One finca was Flecha or something to do with Arrow.

Mexican Oaxaca have been excellent lately. At
www.greencoffeebuyingclub.com JohnF is distributing some really
excellent Oaxaca don pluma. I have purchased 10lbs so far of it and I
have another 15lbs on the way. I think Oaxaca is probably my second
favorite Single orgin shot, and it is an excellent blend base, I use it
as in drip coffee as well, not many orgins do that for me personally.
Larry from rocket coffee roasters in phoenix also shared a Oaxaca pluma
that was excellent as well. It actually won the www.opencoffee.net
single orgin roast-off we had late last year.

I searched this group just using the word "Nogales" and found a post
called "Green Coffee In Nogales" that might point you right to the
coffee you are looking for.

It says there is some Veracruz blended in it. I have stayed away from
Veracruz thinking it was generaly a low quality coffee but because I've
never really tried it....I think I'll have to try it now. I've taken an
interest in Mexican coffee as of late.

Thanks for the info. The coffee I am curious about might be considered
a lower quality coffee, however, it produced huge amounts of crema and
was not bitter. The taste was a bit on the earthy side. Anyway, if my
memory of it is true, it might be a good addition to espesso blends.
