Can anyone tell me when alt.coffee started? Was in sometime in 1994? Or who started it? An exact date would be awesome if anyone knows it.

I came here recently when I was investigating coffee equipment to
upgrade at home. Sadly, there was no posting, no information, no
participation. I was on my own!

Since then, bought a Gaggia New Baby espresso maker, Technivorm drip
brewer, Baratza grinder.

As you've discovered, the group as suffered a troll infestation. A
judicious use of spam filters can help reduce the noise.

Too, many questions you have may have been answered in the past so
groups.google.com may help.

Groups had some information and a few web sites filled in most of the
rest.

I've also found a couple of good sources for coffee. One is about 30
miles from me and is nice to visit when in the area. www.armeno.com
Always something ready for tasting. The other is in Hawaii, a small
farm that picks and roasts on premises. I usually buy 2 pounds of
Kona at a time from www.smithfarms.com

Prices from the small roasters is not much different than what you pay
at big stores. I'd rather support the little guy and get better
service. There are many good ones around.

Yep. And the service is likely to be better and the coffee fresher.

One day in ancient times an Arab goat herder noticed that his goats were
eating a particular berry and that they were jumping around with great
energy and happiness... for some reason he roasted them over his fire and
had the audacity to grind them and mix them with boiling water. Soon, he too
was jumping around with renewed energy and sublime happiness and wondered
with great amazement what the Gods ment when they said, "Wait until you
figure out espresso and cappucino."

Oh, and he thought... someday man will event a way to let everyone know the
wonderful work I have done this day and they will have fearsome machines of
some type to talk to each other about what I have discovered.

Just thought you'd want to know.
