Krups Novo 2000 plus

I've spotted a Krups Novo 2000 plus on an internet auction with a $1
reserve.Will likely sell for <$75. As I understand it, although it is
a thermoblock machine, it does at least have a metal group, and a non-
pressurized filter basket. Maybe I can PID the thermoblock later.

Can anyone tell me how long such a machine lasts before dying? Apart
from the head gasket wearing out, what are the mostly likely problems.
Any technical details would be appreciated.

My general rule is AVOID ANYTHING from krups, period.

spend a few bucks more and find a used Gaggia. -- it is at least worth
keeping.

There are two Krups machines that will produce acceptable espresso, the Novo
Compact [boiler, not thermoblock, and brass PF] and the older Espresso Roma
[again, the lever model was not a thermoblockand had a brass PF; the later
rotary switch was a thermoblock]. I would avoid the thermoblocks. But they
should last as long as any other machine, all depending upon the care they
get. BTW, the Novo Compact has the heavier PF and group, but still 53mm
instead of 58mm like the pro models. My Novo Compact also made better
espresso than my Rancilio Sienna [teflon 53mm PF]. I kept both Krups when I
bought a Gaggia Coffee [before I recently bought a Rancilio Silvia]. Beware
of the never-ending search for a better [?] machine.
